At the end of each session, James provides specific mobility exercises and postural cues based on what the assessment found that day. This isn't a generic handout. It's a short, targeted set of movements chosen for your body, your restrictions, and your lifestyle.
If the assessment showed limited shoulder rotation, you leave with exercises to maintain and build on what the treatment achieved. If forward head posture is loading your neck, you get clear postural cues for how to hold yourself at your desk, in the car, or during training.
Muscle tissue responds to treatment. Posture responds to habit. Massage alone can release tension, reduce pain, and restore movement — but if the underlying pattern isn't addressed, the same muscles will tighten again.
James's approach combines hands-on treatment with the practical guidance to change what's creating the problem. That's the difference between managing pain and actually reducing it over time.
Depending on what the assessment identifies, James may provide:
Targeted mobility drills for restricted joints — shoulder, hip, neck, or thoracic spine
Postural correction cues for sitting, standing, or sleeping positions
Muscle activation exercises for areas that are underperforming and causing compensatory load elsewhere
Stretching protocols for persistently overloaded muscles
Movement guidance specific to your sport, training, or work demands
What happens between sessions matters as much as what happens on the table. If the posture or movement pattern driving your pain is unchanged for the other 167 hours of the week, progress will be slow. James doesn't just treat — he gives you the tools to support your own recovery.
Step 1 — Assessment. Every session begins with a postural and range of motion assessment. This is where James identifies both what to treat and what guidance will be most useful for you to take away.
Step 2 — Treatment. Hands-on treatment addresses the structures the assessment identified — using remedial massage, myofascial release, dry needling, cupping, or a combination based on what your body needs.
Step 3 — Guidance and review. At the close of the session, James walks you through the relevant exercises or postural cues. For returning clients, he reviews progress from the previous session and adjusts the plan accordingly.
This approach is particularly useful for people with recurring pain that responds to massage but keeps returning, desk workers dealing with postural strain, athletes and gym-goers managing load and injury risk, and anyone whose daily routine is contributing to the problem James is treating.
If you've had massage before and found the results short-lived, adding structured between-session guidance is usually what changes the trajectory.
If you've had massage before and found the relief short-lived, the assessment-first approach is the reason that changes. It's particularly relevant for people with recurring pain, postural issues from desk work or physical labour, and movement restrictions that affect sport, training, or daily function.
Private Health Fund Rebates
Private health fund rebates are available — claim on the spot. James is a registered member of the Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA), recognised by all major Australian health funds. If you have extras cover that includes remedial massage, you can claim your rebate at the time of payment. Check your fund for your specific entitlements before booking.
postural guidance James provides is built directly on the findings of the assessment. Without knowing where your restrictions are and what's causing them, the guidance is guesswork. The assessment makes it specific.
Every remedial massage session at Wellness With James includes a postural and range of motion assessment plus take-home guidance where relevant. Treatment and recovery support are part of the same session, not separate services.
For athletes and active clients, the mobility plan is tailored to training demands and sport-specific movement patterns. James works with what your body needs to perform and recover, not a generic programme.
